Join us at Kingfly Spirits in Pittsburgh, PA for a festive workshop of thankful fun and pretty lettering for beginners! Whether you’re a stationery nerd, DIY Bride-to-be, or just a crafty individual, in this workshop you’ll be learning an introduction to modern calligraphy with a pointed dip pen and ink. We will cover all the basics and get you ready to add those special lettered details to all your Thanksgiving & holiday tables with place cards, menus, food labels, bar carts and more!

Class includes 1.5 hours of instruction and demonstration, our beginner’s calligraphy kit (two nibs, black ink pot, 2 letter guides, tracing paper and straight pen holder), and all materials to write on. Class Expectations: Yes, lefties are welcome too! This class is encouraged for someone who has never taken a calligraphy class before. We teach the basics and our expectation for you is to have ink flowing through your nib with enough confidence to be able to practice way beyond class. We love using tracing paper with our guides to help you build muscle memory and develop your own style! If you have tried calligraphy out before, this class will be a great refresher and hopefully a chance to try some new supplies from our beginner kit that will re-introduce you to this lovely form of art!

A note on bringing guests 16 and under: We love to share this passion with kids. You are welcome to get a ticket for your child as long as you are comfortable with people around them having a drink or two. Hugo Cruz and Caminos! released an album in February 2022 called Punto de Partida, featuring many notable musicians from Cuba and the U.S., recording eight of Hugo’s original compositions. In May 2022 Caminos was the Jazz Band headliner for the Westsylvania Jazz and Blues Festival in Indiana PA. Caminos also have been performing a concert series called, “The Voice of Drums”, which brings many great drummers from the Pittsburgh area such as: Roger Humphries, Poogie Bell, Tubby Daniels, Noel Quintana, Dennis Gardner, Jeff Berman, and James Johnson III to join Camino’s way of expressing music.

Active figures in Pittsburgh’s vibrant music scene of the late 1990s, Coal Train amicably disbanded in 2001 as members pursued professional opportunities in other states. Over the years, each member has avidly continued their musical pursuits, engaging in study, teaching, performing, promoting, and composing.

Coal Train was founded on the shared impulse of maintaining a deep connection to—and a dialogue with—early American string band traditions. Since recent compositions from individual band members continue to fit that founding inclination, this reunion affords the chance to revisit favorites from the original catalogue while also exploring new material, imagining how the repertoire might have evolved given the opportunity to continue performing together.

So WHO is Steve Petrick and HOW did he do it?
In 2010 Moviefone was doing a competition looking for America's Biggest Harry Potter Fan as a promotion for the upcoming release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One. He made a three minute long video on YouTube that went viral almost overnight, ending up with over two million views. This video led to several other opportunities, including me setting the Guinness World Record for Largest Collection of Harry Potter Memorabilia. Both of these things combined also landed him on a short-lived TV show called FanAddicts (on their opening episode no-less!) as well as a documentary called "Tom Felton Meets the Superfans" where Tom Felton (the actor that plays Draco Malfoy) actually came to his house to view his collection.

At Kingfly Distillery, we are excited to support local arts and jazz initiatives and consider our venue to be one of the city’s best destinations for ongoing Jazz programming. Live! at Kingfly will take place each Thursday from 7-10pm, unless noted otherwise on our website or social media.

Join us as we welcome the Shireys as they host an evening of Salsa at Kingfly!

This event will take place in our spacious 5,000 square feet loft. Food will be available from a local Mexican restaurant from 6pm until sold out!

About the Hosts:
Jeff and Colleen Shirey discovered salsa nearly 30 years ago while listening to a Latin band at a Pittsburgh nightclub. They have been hooked on the music and dance ever since.
What started out as a hobby, developed into a passion and unexpected second vocation. As founders of Salsa Pittsburgh, Jeff & Colleen teach group and private lessons, offer DJ services, and manage salsapittsburgh.com, a website dedicated to salsa dancing in Pittsburgh. They can be found most Sunday afternoons teaching group salsa classes at the Wightman School Community Building in Squirrel Hill, where they teach six-week class cycles six times per year for beginner and intermediate level dancers.

Jeff & Colleen were the hosts of Salsa Fridays at Greer Cabaret Theater, a Pittsburgh Cultural Trust event that lasted 11+ years. The Shireys have also organized over 30 large-scale salsa dance/workshop weekends that have showcased the talents of many international salsa professionals and world champions.
